News About Lesbian and Gay Marriage and Weddings in California

UPDATE:

The registrar’s office in San Diego has a very cool wedding option available for folks who may want to use it. It’s called Weddings on the Web and it allows folks to make an appointment for both a marriage license and a ceremony and have the ceremony broadcast on their website so that friends and family members from anywhere in the world can watch! For folks who have friends and families who couldn’t travel or might be unable to be with them, it’s a great option. We are the only county in California that has the option. Cost is only $125, all in. You can find out more by either calling (619) 531-6248 or on line at www.sdarcc.com

This is a very cool deal and we are the ONLY place in California can do this. You can make your appointment, give your friends all over the world a web link and the time to log on, fly in, take a taxi to the Clerk’s office at your appointed time, hand them $125, get married live and online worldwide, take a taxi to your honeymoon suite, spend a great weekend in San Diego or jump on a cruise to Mexico, and fly back to Poughkeepsie. When the word gets out on this it should be a network story. Smith can even demonstrate it online in real time to Katie Couric (or whomever is on TV in the morning these days)!

GSDBA Member, Mike Thompson has launched a new web site for LGBT couples' stories. This is the place where all committed couples can register their relationship and tell the world. Take a look and tell your story: www.marriedincalifornia.org

State sees economic windfall in gay weddings
Carolyn Said, Chronicle Staff Writer

Think of it as the Summer of Love meets the Gold Rush.

When same-sex unions become legal in California later this month, throngs
of gay and lesbian couples, both from in the state and around the country,
are expected to hasten to the altar.

Beyond the hearts and flowers of the occasions are monetary realities that
have everyone from Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger to tourism officials to
bakers, jewelers and DJs anticipating a windfall.
